Birds on the Swahili Coast of Tanzania

Come and join us in our quest to spot stunning birds, whether on safari in Saadani National Park, on a Walking Safari in the mangrove systems and salt pans just next to the lodge or just by walking around the premises with open eyes and ears.
The variety of birds here on the Swahili Coast encompasses water birds, birds of grassland and forests. The species dwelling mostly around the Wami River in Saadani National Park include weavers, kingfishers, the African Spoonbill, Flamingos, storks, egrets, herons, plovers, stilts, cormorants, hammerkop and ibises. Driving through Saadani, it's possible to spot vultures, bee-eaters, eagles, rollers, hornbills, oxpeckers, falcons, guineafowls, francolins, hawks and many more. In the shrubs in and around our ecolodge, you'll hear and see a variety of sunbirds, bulbuls, tinkerbirds, seedpeckers, mannikins and more.
